Greece and Italy most affordable European travel destinations![]() Greece and Italy have topped this year’s list published by the UK Post Office as Europe’s most affordable destinations for families. In a recent report about ’sightseeing on a shoestring,’ the UK Post Office highlighted countries offering benefits for families travelling with younger children. For example, in Italy, Pompeii and attractions in Rome, such as the Colosseum offer special deals for families, known as ‘kids go free.’ A family of four is able to enjoy a day of sightseeing at one of these attractions for less than £20. All three are free for anyone under 19 years of age. Spain is family-friendly as well, offering free or reduced-price admission for youngsters at most of its national heritage sites. The head of Post Office travel, Helen Warburton, commented: “The survey shows that it will pay parents planning sightseeing trips to check out costs in advance to find the best deals.” “We found a wide range of cost-cutting opportunities, which savvy travellers can use to shave money off sightseeing trips. In Greece, for example, we found that the top attractions are completely free on the second Sunday of the month in July and August.” The report also listed the most affordable destinations in the world to be South Africa and Thailand. |
