A growing interest for the Latin language is widely acknowledged: there are congresses, cultural meetings, and publications in several areas, news services, and young people who communicate with each other through the internet, - all in the language of Cicero. Would anything similar be possible in Ancient Greek? Affirmative! That's Dr. Joan Coderch-i-Sancho's - of the University of St. Andrews in Scotland- answer. The Spaniard runs a website, Akropolis World News (www.akwn.net), the main objective of which is to offer a summary of the latest world news in Ancient Greek, using the plain Attic dialect. The material is updated on a weekly basis. Dr. Joan Coderch has also translated one of the Sherlock Holmes's stories into Ancient Greek ("The case of the three students") which is available at Blackwell's in Oxford and The Hellenic Book Service in London. |
