Paul Cartledge, "Ancient Greece, a History in Eleven Cities," Oxford University Press

"A unique history of Ancient Greece from the viewpoint of the city - the foundation stone of Greek civilization" (Oxford University Press)

On October 14, Cambridge University Professor Paul Cartledge presented his latest book "Ancient Greece, a History in Eleven Cities," on the premises of the Hellenic Centre in London.

The author studies eleven ancient Greek cities from all over the ancient Hellenic world, such as Athens, Alexandria, Knossos, Marseille, Syracuse, and Byzantium. Cartledge lays special emphasis on Marseille, as a typical example of a city which thrived at remote distance from the motherland.

Paul Anthony Cartledge is the first A. G. Leventis Professor of Greek Culture at Cambridge University.
